Easter Sunday Leisure walk

The 16 miles walk from Gloucester Canal to Saul Junction Café and back is a gentle journey steeped in peace and soft delights.

On this pleasantly warm Easter Sunday, the canal path feels almost hushed. Along the way, swans glide with quiet grace across the water. Small birds dart in and out of the hedges, their song light and joyful in the warm breeze. Every now and then, a narrowboat drifts by—painted in cheery colours. Some are moored along the bank, their potted plants and bicycles perched on top, making each one feel like a story waiting to be told.

As my friend and I reach Saul Junction, the canal widens slightly, as if exhaling. Boats gather here like old friends, bobbing gently beside one another. The café welcomes with the scent of fresh coffee and the promise of something sweet. Sitting outside, you can watch the world float by—slow, content, and kind.

The walk back feels even gentler. Maybe the sun has shifted slightly, casting golden patches on the path. With each step, there’s the sense that time has slowed down just for a little while—and that’s the magic of a walk like this.

I enjoyed the day, it was fabulous.
